Friday, May 13th, did not turn out to be an unlucky day as some superstitious souls might expect but was a fun and exciting day at Rawai Park School. The whole day was dedicated to fitness and sports and great fun was had by all.
The day got off to a roaring start with a Gummy Bear dance competition for the younger children with all coming out winners. What a great bunch of dancers we have!
Nikita then took over leading the students in warm-ups and stretches before starting the event of fun activities to compete of every sort imaginable!
Once the morning activities had been completed Teacher Adri gave a lecture to our students about the importance of being a good sportsman and what qualities one should hold in high regard to be at the top of your game whether you win or lose. We have either been taught from a young age or have become confused about the concept of winning and losing. It is incorrect to think of winning as the be-all and end-all and at the same time believe that losing is a devastating failure. Nelson Mandela once correctly said ‘I never lose, I either win or I learn’. We can only truly accept a loss as a failure if we did not learn or grow from our experience.
The discussion then moved on to healthy and unhealthy relationships that we have with things such as food, exercise, and sleep. We believe and promoting a healthy lifestyle at Rawai Park School in which we hope for our students to choose to be physically active by partaking in different sports both inside and outside of school as well as doing fun and exciting outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming.
Food is exceptionally important as our body reacts very specifically to what we eat. Even though healthy food may not be as tasty or convenient at times compared to unhealthy food we must remember to make the smart and educated decision that our body prefers healthy food that will keep us mentally and physically healthy. Finally, sleep was brought up to our students, unfortunately, we still have some students who arrive at school tired due to the fact that they have stayed up past their bedtime to talk and play games with their friends. This type of sleep relationship is unhealthy and should be encouraged to become healthier as students need at least 8 hours of sleep per night in order to concentrate and work effectively.
At 3 pm the excitement was taken to a whole new level as parents arrived to partake in the fun and games with their children! Teams were created and split into green and yellow where there would be a face-off of 13 different races and games to decide an ultimate winner.
After lots of fun and excitement in the sun, it was announced that team green had won the competition with 8 points compared to the 7 points of the yellow team. Gold medals were handed out to the winning team and silver medals to the second-placed team at assembly on the 18th of May. The competition between the two teams was tight throughout the day and we would like to congratulate the students and parents for showing as much sportsmanship and respect to each other throughout the event.
We would like to send out a big thanks to the students and parents for partaking in such a wonderful day and our brilliant staff for the hard work they did throughout the day, special thanks are sent to Teacher Adri and Teacher Nikita for the long and hard planning that was put into this day.
